Another poem came to me that I thought you’d appreciate.
When talking with someone you care about, do you ever feel like the other person isn’t really listening? They may be saying, “Uh huh,” but you know they aren’t really hearing you.
As evolved people, we can reason that it’s nothing personal, they probably have a lot on their mind, etc. etc.
It still doesn’t feel good.
So, what to do?
Well, I thought about this, after feeling somewhat ignored recently, and the below poem came to me.
The truth is, I’m responsible for my own happiness, and I always have a choice about how I want to be. This realization is freedom to me.
Enjoy the poem!
DO YOU SEE ME?
I talk and assume you listen
Sometimes I laugh when I talk
as I tell you a story
an important story
but not really
I notice whenever I pause, which isn’t often
you nod as if to say, ‘Go on’
I don’t hesitate to continue
My story is a good one
at least I think so
as I laugh at my own sense of humor
I notice a distracted chuckle in response
to my really funny story
that you’re not really hearing
otherwise you’d be really laughing
at least I think so
I notice you don’t get it
or don’t want to
or you’re just not interested
and I feel
I’m not being seen
by you
someone very important to me
proven by your eyes never looking up to meet mine
this whole time
What do I do?
Demand attention?
Re-tell the tale?
Stomp and yell?
Oh, no
to this there is no worthwhile end
So I decide
to laugh some more
because my story is just too funny
to me
and this is more than enough
to make me happy
